I have many thoughts to share on this case and too little time to do it, tonight.

All I'm going to say, for tonight, is that there are many tragic mistakes that have been made in this terribly tragic period of history in the Catholic Church. The Church, I will acknowledge, that my broader family has called home for all of my life.

But outside of leaving any child in the care of someone who will so seriously abuse their trust and love, I cannot think of a more tragic outcome to this sorry mess of human frailty than the imprisonment of this all-too-human and very decent man.

I can only hope that we will wake up from this sad frenzy of vengeance that has taken hold of us.

God love us, as always, despite ourselves.
