On quitting...
I have 5 minutes before I have to pick these kids to write something about quitting...
I'm of the Winston Churchill camp on this one, as a general rule...
Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever quit...
I now see why Winston said it...
Because it's the most common character flaw to undermine important efforts...
That...and not quitting when you need to quit...I guess that illustrates just how complicated the whole goddamn world is...
But I have decided that should I be foolish enough to quit...
That I need to do what I think all quitters on any matter of social policy or any question of social importance should do should they quit...
I should shut the fuck up...and expect to be ignored when I want to voice an opinion that I didn't have the nerve to be a part of a constructive solution for...
Cynics should keep their fuckin' mouthes closed, much of the time, really...
Because they don't have anything to offer except excuses for why their lame asses gave up...wrapped in a million rationalized, bullshit conversation pieces...
We just had a really talented young teacher quit our faculty and move on to the suburbs...
...which is fine...I actually like this teacher, a lot...and I respect her a lot, too...
But I'm tired of watching people quit on these kids...
And I'm tired of people who quit really caring long ago...
Making policy for the rest of us...
