I think I'm going to start looking for a new job this weekend
I don't think I can handle this anymore.
I've watched as my 7th grade team of math teachers and my principal all basically indicated that covering their asses with assessments was more important than whether the kids learned anything or not. As it turns out, the basic skills that I was arguing needed to be covered are two of the benchmarks my kids and all kids have to pass. Meaning doing the right thing was the right thing even for the tests.
But that's not what all of this has been about. What this has all been about is whether people can control me or not. People's assumption that because my conscience comes first, and I teach kids first and look out for their needs, first, rather than after my own ass, that I must be insubordinate. Even when I'm right.
What my principal and my colleagues want is someone who can tow the line, better, wrong as well as right. And I'm not that person.
And I think I need to move on.
I think I'm going to start putting in applications for new jobs this weekend. Because I can't stomach this anymore.
Love,
Ben

Oh, don't you dare quit. Don't. If you do, I will try my damnedest to convince you to start working with me in order to create some kind of twisted empire that will doom us both.
The money's probably better than teaching, though. And you don't have administrators or kids around.
