Afghan president calls for end to forced marriage

It is the most beautiful of ironies that it takes an Afghan president, the leader of a newly liberalized nation, to teach the most mature democracy in the world the most important lesson that liberal democracy has to offer.

This lesson is only complicated to those of us who take it for granted.

To those like Hamid Karzai, this is what all that sacrifice was for.
