It is not who gets elected President. Political leaders generally follow where others lead.

Liberal democracy is when citizens expect government to give them the freedom to live the lives they need and want. To live lives of purpose or not. To criticize their governments freely or to abstain. To live lives that are worthy to them, whether goverment or anyone approves or not.

Politicians only lead such efforts when they take liberty seriously. Generally, though, they are following the lead of others.

We are those others they follow.
